About this category

Business Mother of the Year celebrates a mother who has built or grown a successful business while raising her family. It recognises the determination, organisation and creativity it takes to do both, and the example she sets for her children and for other working parents. Judges look at what the business has achieved and how she has made it work alongside family life.

Eligibility

  • Open to mothers who own, co-own or run a business
  • Any sector and any business size, including home-based and part-time businesses
  • Step-mothers, adoptive mothers and guardians are welcome

Judging criteria

  • Business achievement: growth, customers and results
  • Balance: how she has built the business around family commitments
  • Resilience: obstacles overcome along the way
  • Inspiration: the example she sets for other working parents

Qualitative criteria

  • Determination and resourcefulness
  • Excellent organisation and time management
  • Creativity in solving problems
  • Supportive of other parents in business

Metrics

  • Turnover or growth over the last one to three years
  • Customers, products or services launched
  • Jobs created or flexible working offered
  • Testimonials from customers or the community

Additional criteria

  • Achievements should fall mainly within the last three years
  • The business must be trading at the time of entry
